Blackwell's Rare Books: Display of Original Blake Pieces
To accompany the Ashmolean’s stunning new exhibition, Blackwell's Rare Books is proud to offer for a limited time a collection of Blake original engravings, books, and high-quality facsimiles. If you have been inspired by Blake and wish to see more, or to take home something even more special than the lovely exhibition catalogue, we invite you to visit our department on the second floor of Blackwell’s on Broad Street.
We are now displaying for sale original Blake engravings, including illustrated pages from his 1797 work for Edward Young’s Night Thoughts, a selection of pages from The Book of Job, printed posthumously from the original plates that Blake engraved, and several striking images from the unfinished Divine Comedy. One truly special highlight is one of the few surviving examples of Blake’s last engraving, the ‘calling card’ he produced for his friend and supporter George Cumberland.
Also available are a number of books, including early reproductions of Blake’s ‘illuminated’ books published in the nineteenth century, and examples of the high-quality facsimiles produced by the Trianon Press in the 1960s and 1970s.
The plates and books are now on show during the regular opening hours of Blackwell’s Rare Books, and will continue through the Inspired By Blake festival. An illustrated catalogue will be available shortly. If you would like more details, please contact Blackwell’s Rare Books.
